Lola A. Bass
Edenton Resident
Lola Marie Allan Bass, 86, of the 600 block of Queen St., Edenton, died Tuesday, July 5, 2005 in Goldsboro, N.C. Mrs. Bass was the daughter of the late Letha Mae Sherwood and Robert William Allan and was the wife of Lt. Col. Herbert Edward Bass.
Mrs. Bass was a member of Edenton Baptist Church, the Mary Martha Sunday School Class and the WMU. She was a nurse for the U.S. Army, where she served during World War II. She was a member of the Edenton Business and Professional Women and has received their Woman of the Year Award. Mrs. Bass worked as a nurse for the Chowan County Health Department, and was also a faithful volunteer for the Edenton-Chowan Food Pantry.
Survivors include her two sons, James "Jimmy" Herbert Bass and his wife, Clare, of Raleigh, N.C. and William "Bill" Edward Bass of Fairview, Texas; her brother, Robert William Allan Jr., of Michigan; nine grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert "Bob" Louis Bass and his wife, Brenda White Bass.

A celebration of Mr. Bass's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2005 in Edenton Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert White officiating. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Evans Funerals and Cremations and at all other times at the home of Cassie and Paul Bunch of 1946 Paradise Road.
