Margaret Fitcher Dies, Former Social Worker
Mrs. Margaret Bass Fitcher, 80, former executive secretary of the Travelers Aid Society of Virginia and former intake supervisor for the Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, died Thursday.Also formerly with the Richmond Area Community Council, she was executive of the central application bureau of Travelers Aid before becoming executive secretary in 1940.She was with Travelers Aid until 1955, when she became intake supervisor for the Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. She transferred to the State Department of Welfare and Institutions in 1958 as a child welfare consultant.She later worked as a welfare training supervisor, a child welfare student supervisor and with the medical social work department at the Medical College of Virginia.Mrs. Fitcher was a graduate of the former Richmond Professional Institute, now a part of Virginia Commonwealth University. She received her master of science degree in social work from Richmond Professional Institute in 1957.She was the widow of Herbert N. Fitcher, who died in 1981.There are no immediate survivors.A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today at River Road Baptist Church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
