He was born in Person County, son of the late James Alexander Bass, Sr. and Josephine Holeman Bass. He was preceded in death by his wife Anne Moore Bass. Mr. Bass was a retired salesman and a Veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean conflict. Mr. Bass was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church. Mr. Bass is survived by his son Alex Bass, III and wife Misti of Rutherfordton, North Carolina; daughter Carol B. Painter of Roxboro; brother Robert E. Bass of High Point; four grandchildren Wesley Alexander Woodfin, Thierry "Kip" Painter, Brandon Bass & Nathan Bass. Graveside memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 10, 2012 at Burchwood Cemetery.
