Called To Norfolk
Mrs. Charles D. Fox has been called to Norfolk by the serious illness of her father, Captain Bass. Captain Bass lived for a number of yaers in and around Roanoke, and has spent the most of his life in railroad service, and many years with the Norfolk and Western. For some time past he has been stationed at Norfolk. His health has not been at all good during the past spring and summer. Captain Bass has many friends here who will learn of his illness with sincere regret.

Capt. Wm. Collin Bass
Captain William Collin Bass died yesterday afternoon, at his residence, 724 Park avenue, in the 81st year of his age. He was born in Nottoway Court House and had been a resident of Norfolk for twenty-four years. He had bee in the employ of the Norfolk and Western Railroad for fifty years and about five years ago was retired. He was an Odd Fellow, a Mason, and a member of Pickett-Buchanan Camp of Confederate Veterans. He was one of the oldest members of McKendree Methodist Church, where he was greatly honored and loved.
Captain Bass is survived by two daughters, Mrs. C.D. Fox, of Roanoke, and Miss Lou C. Bass, of Norfolk, and three sisters, Mrs. Fannie Wallace of Keysville, Va.; Mrs. Millie Overton o Lunenburg, Va., and Mrs. Alice Shackleton, of Norfolk.
The funeral took place at 5:30 p.m. today, at the residence, and was conducted by Rev. T.R. Reeves, of McKendree Church, being largely attended, including members of Pickett-Buchanan Camp, Confederate Veterans There were many floral offerings. The remains will be sent via the N. and W.R.R., this evening, at 7 o?clock, to Roanoke, Va., for burial.
