J.S. White, Wakefield Leader, Dies
WAKEFIELD ? Feb. 14 ? Jeb Stuart White, a former Mayor and one of the pioneer citizens of Wakefield, died Sunday in a Suffolk hospital. He was 78.
A merchant, Mr. White established this community?s fire department and water supply system. He supervised construction of the first sidewalks here and operated the first motion picture theater.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Horace Bass, of Danville, and Mrs. W.V. Hines, of Wakefield; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Wilbur Willis, of Waverly; two stepsons, R.L. Pond, of Wakefield, and L.C. Pond, of Birmingham, Ala; three sisters, Mrs. J.E. Bain, Mrs. W.H. Harris and Mrs. J.A. Hatch, all of Wakefield, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Tuesday at Purvlance Funeral Home, in Wakefield, with burial in Wakefield Cemetery.
