Roy Shelton Bass

Selma - Roy Shelton Bass, age 70, died Friday afternoon in WakeMed of Raleigh. Born March 4, 1945 in Johnston County, North Carolina, to the late Ernest Wilbert and Vera Beatrice Woodruff Bass, he was the widower of Elgie Langley Bass who died May 10, 2008 and was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth B. Hurley. Roy was a retired brick mason and loved to fish in his spare time. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with the Reverend Percy Hartley and Mr. Perry Benson officiating. Burial will follow in the Carters Chapel Church Cemetery. Surviving are his step-son, Tony C. Deans and wife Norita of Selma; step-daughter, Joy Deans of Smithfield; sisters, Ann Hartley and husband Percy and Rose B. Rains and husband William E. all of Princeton; brother-in-law, William Hurley of Selma; special friend, Thelma Sapp of Princeton; three step-grandchildren, Brook Jones, Meagan Deans and Heather Deans and four step-great-grandchildren, Hunter Jones, Colby Jones, Olivia Deans and Aubrey Deans. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
