Billy Norton Bass
Billy Norton Bass, 74, of Colonial Heights, died peacefully at Chippenham Medical Center early Sunday morning surrounded by his loved ones. He was the son of the late Edna Viola Vincent and Joseph T. Bass. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Vincent Bass. Billy was an avid fastball pitcher and was inducted into the Metro Richmond Hall of Fame in 1975. He was retired from E.I. Dupont with 36 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and hunting in his early years. He was a member of the Colonial Heights senior golf club. He was a member of Blandford Masonic Lodge #3 and a member of Highland United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Laura Bass; daughter, Sandra Bass Watkins and her husband, Dan Watkins of Lillington, North Carolina; son, Michael Bass and his wife, Eileen Bass of Chester; grandchildren, Laura Kendall Ashby and her husband, Harry Ashby Jr., Jennifer Leigh Jones and Matthew Bass; great-grandson, Caleb Lee; and two loving Yorkshire terriers, Toby and Zocco; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2004 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2003 Boulevard, with the Reverend Darwood Rowan officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home, followed by family visitation until 8:30 p.m. Flowers are welcome or donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Virginia 23060.
