Jacqueline ?Jackie? Whittington Bass
DUNN ? Jacqueline "Jackie" Whittington Bass, 92, passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, at her residence. She was born on May 18, 1930, in Harnett County to the late Carl and Verta Whittington. She was predeceased by her husbands, Bruce West and Graham Bass; her daughter, Pat Autry; her granddaughter, Jill Lawrence; brothers, Carl Whittington Jr., Delano Whittington and Vin Whittington; and her sister, Edna Vaughan.
Jackie was raised and worked on her family farm as a child and with both her husbands. She was a graduate of Coats High School and worked as a sales clerk for Roses for about 20 years when it was in downtown Dunn. Later, she owned and operated Bass Country Store for many years. Then she became a greeter at Walmart for several years.
Jackie was an active member of the Coats Senior Center, where she was the recipient of the Harnett County Senior Citizens Volunteer Award. She was a lifelong member of the Taylor's Chapel Church of God of Prophecy where she served as clerk and treasurer for 35 years, as Women's Missionary leader, and as a Sunday school teacher. Jackie was beloved by all and was a wonderful mother and a cherished grandmother. Jackie exemplified a lifelong, selfless service to God and others and an unfailing love of family.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m. at Taylor's Chapel Church of God of Prophecy by the Rev. Doug Howard and Bishop Warren Barfield. Burial will follow in the Whittington Family Cemetery.
She is survived by her two sons, Danny West and wife Audrey of Wilmington, and Graham Bass Jr. and wife Sondra of Dunn; her two daughters, Gwen Smith and husband Donnie of Dunn, and Andora Bass and husband Freddie Hall of Winston-Salem; three brothers, Oliver Whittington and Jerry Whittington, both of Willow Spring, and Don Whittington of Dunn; her sister, Rena McLamb of Roseboro; son-in-law, Robert Autry of Dunn; 13 grandchildren, Dawn Wrench and husband Mark, Daniel West and wife Jessica, Lauren West and friend Emmet Leahy, Cameron West and wife Kristin, Joshua Smith and wife Wynnde, Madilyn Smith and husband Thomas, Caleb Smith, Tyler Bass, Kasey Dudley and husband Colt, Lee and Sueanna Bass, Garrison and Marlena Hall; 10 great-grandchildren, Carrington Wrench, Maura Wrench, Bristol Lawrence, Brandt, Wyatt, Luke and Tate West, Gracelyn, Raelyn, and Jocelyn Smith.
The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home.
