      Hassie Bassett funeral today

      Funeral services for Hassie M. Bassett will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Bassett Chapel, Cliff Temple Baptist Church. Burial will be in Laurel Land Memorial Park.
      Mrs. Bassett died Monday at Baylor University Medical Center. She was 86.
      She was the wife of Dr. Wallace Bassett, who served as pastor of Cliff Temple Baptist Church form 1918 until his retirement in 1966, two years before his death. During his pastorate, the membership grew from 1,100 in one building to 6,4000 in an 8-building complex.
      Mrs. Bass is survived by a son, Dr. Wallace Bassett of Hawkins, Wood County; three daughters, Margaret Johnson and Verona Olson, both of Dallas, and Elaine Bassett Mayfield of Coriscana, Navarro County, and three brothers, Dr. William B. Mayfield of Corsicana, John William Mayfield of Baton Rouge, La., and Carey T. Mayfield of Waco.
