Mrs. T.C. Swackhamer
Mrs. Elizabeth Gray Swackhamer, 71, of 16 Akbar Road, died suddenly at her home on Sunday.
Mrs. Swackhamer was born in Lucoma, N.C. on Nov. 14, 1900 and was the daughter of Charles Otis and Maggie Bass. She was a resident of Stamford for 13 years and the wife of the Rev. T. Cecil Swackhamer, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Stamford, who survives her.
Mrs. Swackhamer was a graduate of the Greensboro College for Women, Greensboro, N.C., Scarritt College in Nashville, Tenn. and Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing in Baltimore, Md. Mrs. Swackhamer and her first husband, the late Dr. Hamilton Moore, were medical missionaries to the Congo where, together, they gave 14 months of service prior to his death.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Swackhamer is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Hugh B. Hall jr., and three grandchildren, all of Chaptico, Md.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the First United Methodist Church, Cross Rd. The Rev. Matthew Gaates, district superintendent of the New York Conference of the United Methodist Church, the Rev. David A. Stevens, associate minister of the First United Methodist Church in Stamford, and Eldon Simpson of Yale University, will officiate. Interment will be at Maple Wood Cemetery, Wilson, N.C.
Mrs. Swackhamer will lie in state at the First United Methodist Church Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m.
