Robert Bass
Robert "Steve" Bass, 89, of Chesapeake, VA, passed away at home on June 23, 2024. Steve was a native of South Norfolk, and the son of the late Archie Bass and Anna Castello Bass.
He was a 1953 graduate of South Norfolk High School and a 1957 graduate in business administration from the College of William and Mary. He completed his post graduate work at Rutgers University Stonier's School of Banking in 1978. He started his banking career at the National Bank of Commerce which subsequently merged five times to become Bank of America. He retired as a Regional Executive Officer after 38 years.
He was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church, a long time member and Sunday school teacher at Great Bridge Baptist Church and attended Hickory Ridge Community Church.
Steve was an avid football fan and enjoyed woodworking and history. Being community minded he held various memberships in the area, including the Hickory Ruritan Club and served on the board of the Boy Scouts of America and served in the National Guard.
He is survived by his current wife of 11 years Rebecca "Becky" Williams Bass; sons, Bryan(Nancy) and Roger from his previous marriage to Joanne Rolfe Bass, who proceeded him in death in 2012; three grandsons, Joshua, Ryan, and Brandon; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Yvonne Martin of Riverview, FL and Connly(Elizabeth) Bass of Virginia Beach, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, on July 1, 2024 at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, VA with Pastor Calvin Corbet officiating.
