With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lynwood Anderson Bass Jr., affectionately known as L.A., on January 14, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on February 14, 1942, in Wilson, North Carolina, he was the beloved son of Lynwood Anderson Bass Sr. and Juanita Minchew Bass, who instilled in him strong values and a deep appreciation for family.
L.A. dedicated his life to his loved ones, serving as a devoted husband, a caring father, and a cherished grandfather. He married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Seburn, and together they shared a remarkable journey of love and companionship that spanned 67 years, including 60 wonderful years of marriage. Their enduring bond was a testament to their commitment and affection for one another.
As a graduate gemologist, L.A. possessed a remarkable career in the jewelry industry for 60 years. He was the proud owner of Churchwell's Jewelers, where his exceptional craftsmanship and unwavering commitment to quality left an indelible mark on the community. L.A. was not only a skilled artisan but also a trusted advisor to countless customers who valued his expertise and integrity.
A passionate supporter of his grandchildren?Mary Claire, Caroline, Rylan, and Kaitlin?L.A. found immense joy in their accomplishments and cherished every moment spent in their company. His warmth and generosity endeared him to family and friends alike, and he possessed a unique ability to foster connections and bring people together.
L.A. is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Bass; his son, Anderson, and his wife, Angie; his son, Seburn; and his treasured grandchildren, Mary Claire, Caroline, Rylan, and Kaitlin. His presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Daughter Of Former Residents Married In Wilson Ceremony
Wilson - July 25 - Miss Marilyn Moore Seburn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Seburn, former Greensboro residents, was married this afternoon to Lynwood Anderson Bass Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Lynwood Anderson Bass.
After the 4 oâ??clock ceremony conducted in First Christian Church by the Reverend James G. Wallace, the Seburns entertained at a reception at Wilson Country Club.
The bridal couple will live at 1111 W. Gold Street.
The bride is a granddaughter of Mrs. W.H. Seburn of 3101 Friendly Road, Greensboro, who was among the special guests for the wedding and reception. She attended East Carolina College, Greenville, and Atlantic Christian College.
Mr. Bass is a graduate of ECC and is employed by Thurston Motor Lines as salesman and public relations representative.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride had her sister, Miss Patricia Anne Seburn, for maid of honor. The bridesmaids were the bridegroomâ??s sister, Mrs. Marshall Newbern; Miss Sylvia Barrett of Rocky Mount; Mrs. George Griffin, Mrs. James B. Alford and Miss Val Deans.
The brideâ??s cousins, Beth and Catherine Cobb, and the bridegroomâ??s nephew, Keith Newbern, were flower girls and ring bearer.
Mr. Bass had his father for best man. His brother-in-law and his cousin, Albert Bass Jr. of Raleigh, ushered with the brideâ??s cousin, Charles H. Walker of Greensboro; W.P. Sims Jr. of Henderson; Erick Minschew of New Bern; Sim Wooten Jr. of Raleigh; W.T. Laramore of Winston-Salem; W.T. Lamm III, and Don Walston.
Mr. and Mrs. James V. Cobb Jr. furnished music.
The brideâ??s white dress of silk organza over taffeta was detailed with Alencon lace appliques studded with tiny pearls. The fitted bodice was styled with long sleeves and scoop neckline. The back of the full skirt was dramatized by unpressed pleats falling into a chapel train from a large waistline bow centered by a fabric rose. Her bouffant veil of silk illusion was caught to an organza cap of rose petal points outlined with seed pearls and topped by a large fabric rose. White callas and ivy formed her bouquet.
