Anne Flowe Bass

BASS---Anne Flowe Bass, 84, of Orange Park passed away December 6 at the Wyndham Lakes Assisted Living facility in Jacksonville, FL. Anne was born November 29, 1932 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Oscar Lee Flowe Sr. and Annie Duncan Flowe. She attended school in, and near Mint Hill, N.C. and graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1951. She then enrolled in Queen's College in Charlotte and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in education in 1955. While at Queen's College, Anne met and fell in love with an aspiring Naval Intelligence Officer, William H. Bass III. They were married on December 21, 1955. Anne taught in elementary schools and kindergartens wherever her husband Bill's military service took them. She taught in Jacksonville, FL; Omaha, NE; Virginia Beach, VA; Denver, CO; Charlotte, NC; Charleston, SC; and most recently at Grace Episcopal Day School in Orange Park, FL. She was a dedicated and supportive Navy wife, and ran the family during Bill's many deployments. Following Bill's retirement, she tirelessly cared for him until his death from an extended illness in 2001. Anne was a wonderful mother to her children Suzanne and Greg, and always seemed to know what was fun. She was a Siamese cat fancier and enjoyed taking care of them for most of her adult life. In addition to school teaching, Anne helped with Christian education and pre-marital counseling at St. Catherine's Catholic Church where she was a longtime active member. In her retirement, Anne also provided music and voice therapy for profoundly disabled children. Anne was a loyal member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as district Chaplain and worked to support Native American schools sponsored by DAR. She was also active in the DAR patriotism awards program for local school children. She was an enthusiastic member of the Red Hat Society and the local Retired Officers Wives Club. A lifelong exerciser, Anne was a regular at the Dye Clay Family YMCA, and will be missed by those in her fitness classes. Anne was known and loved for putting others first and for her lasting faith in God. Her kindness to others was extraordinary. She is survived by her children, Suzanne Bass (Billy) Day of Kingsland, GA. and Greg (Karen) Bass of Idaho Falls, ID; and also her grandchildren Nick (Amelia McCoy) Wilson, Lauren (Chris) Churchey, Adam (Amanda) Bass, Jeff (Jillian) Bass and Eric (Cassidy Ray) Bass. She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar Lee Flowe, Sr. and Annie Duncan Flowe; beloved brother Oscar Lee (Nancy) Flowe, Jr. and sister Emma Jean Flowe. A Funeral Service will be held 2pm Friday, December 9, 2016 in the Chapel at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1PM-2PM prior to the service at the Funeral Home Chapel.
