Mrs. Janie Bass Howle
Funeral Services are held Sunday Afternoon at Residence
Darlington Dec. 7 ? Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Janie bass Howle at her residence here. Interment followed in Grove Hill cemetery, Conducting were her pastor, the Rev. Wirt L. Davis assisted by the Rev. C.R. Cody, rector of S. Matthew?s Episcopal church. Mrs. Howle had been critically ill for some months, and died early Saturday morning in Darlington. She was the daughter of the late Captain J.E. Bass, Confederate veteran, and Mrs. Sara Bell Bass, both of Darlington. In 1901 she was married to Edward S. Howle, prominent merchant. She was a member of the First Baptist church, and was active in the social life of the community. She will be missed by a devoted family and a wide circle of friends.
Surviving are her son, Edward S. Howle, her grandson, Edward S. Howle, Jr., of Darlington, a sister, Miss Blanche Bass, of Greenville; three brothers. R. Lee Bass, of Hemingway; J.E. Bass, of Rock Hill, and J.L. bass, of Conway, also a wide number of relatives throughout the county.
