Bill J. Bass

Bill J. Bass, 82, was born Aug. 10, 1924, and passed away Aug. 21, 2006. On April 4, 1946, he was married to Helen Owen and they made Springfield their home for more than 60 years. Bill served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp in World War II. He was a 1941 graduate of Nixa High School and a 1948 graduate of what is now Missouri State University. Bill was personnel director at Producers Produce, executive vice president of Guaranty Federal Savings & Loan and vice president of Roosevelt Savings & Loan. He was president of the Central Point and Kickapoo school boards in Greene County until they consolidated into Springfield Public Schools. He was very active in the Kiwanis Club and the Springfield Savings & Loan Association. Bill was a charter member of the Springfield Home Builders Association. He is survived by wife, Helen; daughter, Sandra Byrd and her husband, David; son, Randy Bass and his wife, Joan; granddaughter, Jennifer Byrd; grandsons, Michael Byrd, Sam Bass and Dan Bass. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, in Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Burial will follow in the Patterson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Aug. 23, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Memorial contributions can be made to the Bill J. Bass Scholarship Fund at the Missouri State University Foundation.
