Ronald Bassett, Wagoner, Okla.
Ronald Bassett, 72, of Wagoner, Okla., formerly of Corning, died July 6, 2006, at the Veterans Administrative Medical Center-Palliative Care Facility in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Graveside services were 1 p.m. Monday, July 10, at Evergreen Cemetery in Prescott. Military rites were provided by the VFW Theodore J. Martins Post 1797. Memorials are to be established. Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave., had charge of arrangements.
Ronald Keith Bassett, son of Mildred Lucille (Crow) and Merrill Clark Bassett, was born Nov. 2, 1933, in Iowa City. He graduated from Corning High School and Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo. He served in the U.S. Navy form April 1052 to April 1956.
Ronald settled in the Denver, Colo. area when he first returned from the Navy where he worked for the Denver Police Department, then for the United States Marshall's office for nearly 10 years. Later, he worked for various oil companies and telephone companies working as a land agent doing land leases and sales, before retiring in 2003 while living in Wagoner, Okla. He recently moved to Leeds, Ala. He was a member of the Methodist Church in various locations.
Survivors include a brother, Merrill Dean (wife Patricia) Bassett of Humboldt; two nieces, Kayla Bassett of Leeds, Ala., and Terry (Bassett) Swanson of Pace, Fla.; grand-nephews Brett and Tyler and grand-niece Arielle Swanson, all of Pace, Fla.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents.
