Goodloe Yancey (Picture included)
YANCEY, III, Goodloe Goodloe Harper Yancey, III died April 1, 2018 at home in Atlanta, Georgia of heart failure. He was born to Louis Deupree and Jesse Bassett Yancey on September 13th, 1928 at Pheobe Putney Hospital, Albany, Georgia the youngest of five children. Goodloe graduated Albany High School just as WWII was ending and at a time when the school only had 11 grades. Goodloe attended Georgia Military College and then the University of Georgia where he was a brother in Phi Delta Theta fraternity. After college Goodloe served 2 years in the Air Force and then returned to Albany to work for his father L. D. Yancey in the family business, Yancey Tractor Co. (the Caterpillar dealer for south Georgia). When that business was sold, he moved to Atlanta in 1954 and went to work for his uncle Goodloe H. Yancey, Jr and brother Don Yancey at Yancey Bros. Co. (the Caterpillar dealer for north Georgia). He met his future wife, Delores Ann Taylor (also from Albany), soon after moving to Atlanta and they were married at Radium Springs near Albany and she and Goodloe settled into marital bliss at Roswell Court Apartments in Buckhead and soon had 3 boys, Goodloe, James and Allen. Goodloe worked his way up through the ranks at Yancey Bros. Co. and eventually purchased the business from his brother Don in 1974. Goodloe took time out from his position at Yancey Bros. Co. (and his family) to earn an Executive MBA from Harvard Business School in Caimbridge, MA. Goodloe was active in many organizations, and served on many boards, both in and outside of the tractor business. When friends Alana and Harold Shepherd's son James suffered a spinal injury and the Shepherd Center was started, Goodloe was a founding Board member and was instrumental in raising money to grow the Center, eventually winning their Shepherd Angel award. He was a trustee of Georgia Military College (current), Emory University (past), member (and past President) of the Capital City Club, a member of Sea Island, Ocean Forest, The Georgian Club, the Racket Club and Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Goodloe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Delores Ann Taylor Yancey, his three children Goodloe Harper Yancey, IV (Mary Barrett), James David Yancey and Allen Deupree Yancey as well as his beloved grand-daughter Savanna Lee Yancey. The family is extremely grateful to Goodloe's long-term caregiver Gica Sellers and all the ways she enhanced his life. Visitation will be on Tuesday April 10, 2018 at St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Atlanta, Georgia from 1-2pm. Funeral services will be at 2pm following the visitation at St. Anne's Episcopal Church. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, GA. or the Delores Ann and Goodloe Yancey Family Housing program at the Shepherd Center, Atlanta, GA would please him.
