Edward L. Bass
Edward L. Bass, 90, an attorney and president for 56 years of Bass Brothers Furniture Co., died Tuesday in Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bass was a resident of the Near North Side. He received a law degree from Kent College of Law and was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1926. He founded the furniture store at 2945 N. Milwaukee Ave. in 1922 and retired in 1978. Mr. Bass, who was president of the Chicago Retail Furniture Association from 1939 to 1940, was named its ?Man of the Year? in 1956. He also was past president of the Milwaukee-Diversey Chamber of Commerce. During World War II, he was a member of a local Selective Service Board. Survivors include his wife, Maraly; a daughter, Judith Kaufman; two grandsons; and a great-granddaughter. Services for Mr. Bass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Piser Weinstein Menorah Chapel, 3019 W. Peterson Ave.
