Chester J. Bassett (1923 ? 2018) (Picture included)
Chester J. Bassett, 95, of Easthampton passed away peacefully on Dec. 23, 2018, at the Willimansett Center East in Chicopee. Born in Amherst, July 28, 1923, Chet was the son of the late Frank and Stella (Godek) Bassett. He attended schools in Amherst. Chet was a US Army veteran of WWII, with the 66th Infantry COB of 263 Regiment, serving in Northern France, Germany, and Austria; discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1946. Chet worked at the former Uniroyal Tire Co. as a tire builder for 38 1/2 years, retiring in early 1980. After his retirement, he was employed at O'Brien Funeral Home. Chet was a lifelong communicant of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Easthampton, where he belonged to the St. Anthony's Society. Chet leaves his beloved wife of 70 1/2 years, Betty (Parzych) Bassett, his son Gary Bassett and his wife Kelley, his daughters Marcia Glidden and Debra Foster, his five grandchildren, Todd and Ryan Glidden, Tim and Ryan Yucka and Adam Bassett and his four great grandchildren Mason, Tyler, Logan, and Hannah, and his many nieces and nephews. Chet was predeceased by his brother Edward, his great-granddaughter, Harper Yucka and his son-in-law, Jim Foster. A Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 AM at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 17 Clark St., Easthampton followed by burial at the St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday 5-7 PM. Chet's family would like to express their deepest thanks, and appreciation of the wonderful care provided by Dr. William Tran, Dr. Mark Bigda, and all the staff at the Willimansett Center East in Chicopee.
