SHELBOURNE West, Monday, Oct. 22.
In the death of Mr. Wm. Bassett, which occurred last week, this district has lost one of its earliest pioneers. He was for many years a member of the Marong Shire Council (then the Marong Road Board), and both as a public and a private resident earned the respect and esteem of all with whom he came in contact. The interment took place in the Lockwood cemetery on Friday. The funeral was an exceptionally large3 one, and the last tribute of respect thus accorded was well merited by a long and honorable career. The Rev. E. W. Scott, of Kangaroo Flat, officiated at the grave.
