- George W. Bassett Jr., son of George W. and Samantha (Fairchild) Bassett, was born 8 Apr 1829 in Vermont, possibly near Ferrisburgh, Addison County. He died 11 Sep 1911 in Pleasant Gap, Missouri. Death of George Bassett

George Bassett was born April 8, 1828, at Billow Falls, Vermont and died September 27, 1911 at 7 o'clock a.m. passing peacefully away at the home of his son D.D. Bassett near Pleasant Gap.
At the age of 14 years he moved with his fathers family to Utica, NY. Leaving there four years later his father moved to LaGrange County, Indiana, then a comparitively new country. Here the family endured the hardships of the pioneer life and the deceased helped to build the first railroad to Chicago.
March 25, 1925 he was united in marriage with Miss Marcia Gee and to this union four children were born, all of whom are still living. They are William C. of Battle Creek, Michigan; James of Elkhart, Ind; Charles of Plain Well, Michigan and Ewing of Pleasant Gap. Their mother Mrs. Maria Bassett died February 11 1868.
In 1867 Geo Bassett was married a second time, Mrs. Rebecca Adams of Rome City, Indiana., being the bride and to this union one son D.D. Bassett of Pleasant Gap was born. The family came to Bates County in the fall of 1880 and located on the farm where D.D. Bassett now lives and with whom the deceased made his home to the time of his death. He had always been a strong healthy man until about six weeks ago he suffered a paralytic stroke from which he never recovered consciousness. His wife died about 14 years ago.
It is expected that the funeral service would be held at the home Thursday but we have no definite information as this is written as to the time or the arrangements.
