Barbara R. Bassett, R.N. of Des Plaines
Prayers for Barbara R. Bassett (nee Grecco) R.N., will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, at Matz Funeral Home 410 E. Rand Road, Mount Prospect. A 10 a.m. Mass will follow at St. Emily Church, 1400 E. Central Road, Mount Prospect. Born Dec. 2, 1946, in Chicago, she died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines. Mrs. Bassett was the operations coordinator for Walgreen Company for 15 years. She was the former president of the St. Emily Parish Council and school board. She was also a Girl Scout leader and active in many parish activities and civic affairs. She is survived by her husband, Clyde E. Bassett Jr.; children, Owen Bassett and Alicia Bassett; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home. Barbara R. Bassett
Barbara R. Bassett, 52, of Des Plaines, a former registered nurse, died of leukemia Thursday at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Born in Chicago, Mrs. Bassett graduated from Morton West High School in Berwyn and studied nursing at St. Anne's School of Nursing in Chicago. She graduated from nursing school in 1967 and worked at St. Anne's Hospital until 1974. She had married in 1971 and two years later moved to Des Plaines, where she raised her family. Over the past three decades, Mrs. Bassett was active in her community. She was a Girl Scouts troop leader and served two terms as president of the St. Emily School board. She also was the former president of the St. Emily Parish Council in the 1990s. In 1984, she started working in the pharmacy at Walgreens in Mt. Prospect, and in 1994 she was transferred to the company's corporate office in Deerfield, where she worked in the health initiatives department as operations coordinator. "She was a very organized person," said her husband of 27 years, Clyde Bassett, who recalled that about 20 years ago, his wife organized neighborhood residents to petition the local Park District to install playground equipment at a nearby park. "If she could do anything to help out kids, she would do it," he added. Other survivors include a son, Owen, and a daughter, Alicia. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Matz Funeral Home, 410 E. Rand Rd., Mt. Prospect. Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. A mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Emily Catholic Church, 1400 E. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect.
