Della Faye Bass Rivers
Della Faye Bass Rivers, 88, died peacefully Aug. 1, 2007, in Dallas. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Littlepage Funeral Home in Mart, Texas, with burial at Prairie Hill Cemetery. Visitation will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Della was born in the southeast corner of Hill County, Texas. She graduated from high school in Prairie Hill, Texas, and from Brentley Draughan Business College in Fort Worth.
As the wife of a naval officer, Della lived in many communities and was active in church, school, and civic organizations. In Dallas, her membership in St. Mark's Presbyterian Church led her to participate as a Vacation Bible School teacher, librarian, and substitute church secretary and on the Committee on Aging at the Presbytery level. Friends and family members will remember her generosity, gracious hospitality and sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William C. Rivers, with whom she shared almost 65 years of marriage.
Survivors include her daughters, Dianne Wells and husband, Robert, of Houston, Claudia Rivers and husband, Doug Reed, of El Paso, and Bettina Jordan and husband, Ron, of Keller; granddaughters, Katherine Wells, Elizabeth Cabral and husband, Matt, all of Houston, and Hillary Jordan, of Keller; step-granddaughter, Shay Jordan, of Plano; great-grandchildren, Claire and William Cabral, of Houston; sister, Anna Jo Hart, of Rosenberg, Texas; goddaughters, Juliette Rutledge and Minnie Cornelius; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
