Mrs. Howard Long
Funeral services for Mrs. Howard Long, 39, of the McGuire Bend community were held Friday afternoon (Oct 7) at 12 p.m. at the Carson Funeral Home in Dayton and at 2 p.m. at the McGuire Bend United Brethren Church.
The Rev. Dale Kelley, pastor of the church officiated. Burial was in the McGuire Bend Cemetery. During the services Mr. and Mrs. N. Erickson sang "In The Garden" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Mrs. Erickson also played the piano.
Mrs. Donald Ford and Mrs. Lyle Richey took care of the many flowers. Pallbearers were Lawrence Dutcher, Donald Dutcher, Lyle Richey, Larry Holbert, Orville Dayton and Harry Rounds.
Born December 1, 1920, Mrs. Long was the former Dorothy Regina Bass, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson Bass. She was born and reared near Dayton and attended schools in that community. She also attended the Stratford High School.
Surviving are her husband, two children, Dean and Deanne; her mother, Mrs. Jeff Bass of Dayton; six sisters and one brother; Mrs. Charles Stanberg, Mrs. Kenneth Stanberg and Arthur Bass all of Fort Dodge; Mrs. Oscar George of Knierim; Mrs. John Iles, Dayton; Mrs. Jesse Osborn, Lehigh and Mrs. George Long, Duncombe.
She was preceded in death by her father, one son and one daughter.
Mrs. Long died early Wednesday morning at the Hamilton County hospital in Webster City where she had been taken a few hours earlier after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage.
