William Harper Bass (Picture included)

William (Bill) Harper Bass, Jr, 77, of Surgoinsville, TN went peacefully to be with our heavenly father surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 1, 2014 at his home after battling cancer for one and a half years.
He served as deacon at Belle Avenue Baptist Church, Knoxville, TN. Retired after 37 years with Kern's bakery as general manager/vice president in Knoxville, TN and Bristol, VA. Second retirement after 10+ years with Mid Mountain Foods, Abingdon, VA. Bill served in the US Army from July 15, 1955-1958, achieving final rank of Sgt E5 and serving with the 97th Signal Battalion in Germany. Bill cherished spending time with family and friends. He was an avid bird hunter and loved his two horses and hunting dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents: William Harper (Harp) Bass, Sr. and Captolia (Cap) Hazel Horne Bass; Sisters: Virginia Noe, Ruby Carroll Mooney; special brother-in-law: Carl Noe. Survived by his wife of 56 years: Betty Jane Jones Bass. Daughters: Teresa and Phillip Lyons of Knoxville, TN and Sherry and Alan Zimmerman of Bristol, VA. Sister: Dorothy Housewright Cunningham of Churchill, TN. Brothers: Ralph and Juree Bass of Surgoinsville, TN and Pleas Kenneth Bass of Surgoinsville, TN. Grandchildren: Zac, Aletha, Kara Beth, Farris, Jonathan, Brianna Lyons, Cassidy and Alea Heath, Cole and Lauren Zimmerman; numerous nieces and nephews; special brother-in-law: Wayne and Joyce Jones; special uncle: Albert Byce Horne, along with a host of friends.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 3 from 5-7pm at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville, TN. Funeral service will follow at 7:00pm with Pastor Jamie Rogers and Pastor Phillip Lyons officiating. Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 4 at 11:00am at Miller's Cemetery, 742 Carter's Valley Rd, Surgoinsville. For those who wish to attend, please meet at 10:30 am at Christian-Sells Funeral Home.
