Robert E. Bass
Rogersville - Robert E. Bass, age 81, Rogersville, died Wednesday, December 5, 2001, at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. He was a member of Westview Baptist Church and was a very well-known painter and decorator for 45 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bleve and Ollie Bass; a grandson, Ricky Bass; and a granddaughter, Kathy Bass. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Bass of the home; three sons, Robert L. Bass and wife Beuna, Bulls Gap; Dale Bass and wife Ellen, Columbus, Georgia; Larry Neal Bass and wife Sandra K., Rogersville; grandsons, Robert Lee Bass Jr. and wife Debbie, Rogersville, Ron Surrett and wife Lisa, Talbott, Larry N. Bass Jr, Rogersville; granddaughters, Brenda Giefings, Columbus, Georgia, Patricia Chappel, Columbus, Rebecca K. Trent, Bulls Gap, Angela Gillenwater of Virginia and Laura Bass, Rogersville; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Carl Bass, Bristol, Hugh Lee Bass and wife Elizabeth, Rogersville; sisters, Edith Ward and husband Roy, Rogersville, and Elizabeth Carpenter, Johnson City; and a special friend, Bill McMakin. The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2001, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverends Ray Mullins and Johnny Carr officiating. Hawkins County Color Guard will conduct military graveside services 2 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2001, at Highland Cemetery.
