Charles P. Bass

MILTON-FREEWATER -- Charles P. Bass, 76, died Jan. 6, 2006, at St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home in Milton-Freewater. Private inurnment will be at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery.
Mr. Bass was born Aug. 15, 1929, in Deport, Texas, to Solomon and Maybelle Hutchins Bass. He attended school in Bakersfield, Calif. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as an engineer with the 370th Boat Battalion. He and the members of his battalion were featured on the cover of Life magazine. After his discharge from the Army, he moved to Milton-Freewater.
On July 31, 1954, he married Theresa Partin in Walla Walla. Mr. Bass was a self-employed painter and salesman. He enjoyed fishing, camping and playing the guitar.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 24, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4567 and attended the First Christian Church and the Assembly of God Church.
Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his parents; sister Hazel Morrison; brothers Samuel, William and Mac Bass. He is survived by his wife; daughters Tana Park and Carla Rountree both of Walla Walla, Christi Seiler of Mount Angel and Debi Kraft of Nampa; sister Jessie Bass of Florence; brother Walter Bass of Milton-Freewater; eight grandchildren and one god-child.
Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home in Milton-Freewater is in charge of arrangements.
