Denver Bass
Funeral services for Denver Bass, 85, of Edgewood, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Edgewood with the Rev. Jim Ballard and the Rev. Wayne Livingston officiating. Private burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Hiett's LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood.
Denver passed away June 3, 2010, in Wills Point.
Denver Bass was born Jan. 26, 1925, in Alba to Sol and Frances Victory Bass.
As a young child, he moved to Edgewood where he attended school. Denver served as a medic in the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1943 he married Sibyl Evelyn Clemmons and they had three children, Shirley, Gary and Sue. She preceded him in death May 23, 1987. Denver later married Jo Jones and she preceded him in death Feb. 28, 2007. Denver owned and operated Bass Auto Sales in Edgewood for many years and also dealt in real estate. He was a 32nd Degree Mason in Edgewood Masonic Lodge. He served on the Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department, Edgewood City Council, Edgewood Housing Authority and as mayor of Edgewood. He was also instrumental in the development of Edgewood City Park. Denver was a member of First Baptist Church in Edgewood where he was active in the Senior Adult Ministry. Denver enjoyed traveling and spent his lifetime caring for others.
Denver was preceded in death by his parents, Sol and Frances Bass; wives, Sibyl Bass and Jo Bass; brothers, Pete Bass, Robert Bass, John Bass and Buck Bass; and sisters, Mattie Hutchins and Juanita Gilbert.
He is survived by son, Gary Bass and wife Sharon of Edgewood; daughters, Shirley Mathis of Richardson and Sue Pickens and husband Mark of Edgewood; sister, Mabel McLemore Aulds of Houston; grandchildren, Jennifer Gracy and husband Chris, Alicia Tucker, Darin Bass and wife Melissa, Cody Bass, Jeff Phillips and wife Jennifer, and Melissa Cooper; great-grandchildren, Stephanee and Christopher Gracy, Braxton and Sibyl Bass, Sydney Phillips and Wade Cooper; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Friday 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Edgewood.
