      William Bassett, 79
      Troy - William F. Bassett Sr., 79, formerly of Parmenter Avenue, died Thursday in St. Mary's Hospital. He was born in Beverly, Mass., and lived in Troy most of his life. He was a supervisor in the extrusion department at Altech Steel Corp. for 25 years, retiring 20 years ago. Mr. Bassett was a member of the Holy Name Society of Sacred Heart Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Richards Bassett; a son, William F. Bassett Jr. of Wynantskill; two daughters, Sharon Bassett Caruso of Albany and Linda M. Bassett of Troy; and five grandchildren. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Leahy Funeral Home, 336 Third St., and at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Contributions may be made to St. Peter's Hospice of Rensselaer County, 8 N. Lake Ave., Troy, NY 12180.
