Obituary, John Bassett
The death of John Bassett, a veteran of the Civil War, occurred at the Soldiers Home, Noroton, early yesterday afternoon, at the age of seventy-three years. Mr. Bassett whose illness dated from May last, when he suffered a shock, served with the naval forces during the Civil War. He served his time as a sailor and received his honorable discharge at the expiration of his term. He was at one time a member of Moore-White post, G.A.R.
Mr. Bassett was born in Bridgeport, but had spent the greater part of his life in Danbury, until two years ago when he entered the Soldiers' Home. He is survived by one brother, Fred Miles Bassett, also of the Soldiers' Home; and two sisters, Mrs. Belle Horan, of Danbury, and Mrs. Gussie Edmonds of New Haven.
The body was brought to this city today and the funeral services will be held at the home of Mrs. Ida Bassett, sister-in-law of the deceased, 39 Osborne street, Thursday afternoon at 2:30. Interment will be in the family plot in Wooster cemetery.
