Accidental Death Is Jury?s Verdict
Witnesses Testify Accident Victim Did Not Hear Siren
PORT COLBORNE, Ont., Oct. 23 ? Investigating the death of William F. Bassett, killed some days ago when crushed by the concrete counter-weight at the east end of the Clarence street lift bridge, the jury returned a verdict of accidental death. Witnesses testified that the warning siren had been sounded and Bassett had apparently not heard it.
Bassett was killed within 50 yards of the spot where his son, the late Fernley Bassett, met death earlier in the year when his abdomen was crushed between the boom and car of a derrick being used in construction of the bridge.
