Ray Dean Bass
1927 - 2006
Ray Dean Bass, age 79 of Blooming Prairie, died Wednesday afternoon, February 22, 2006, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
He was born March 27, 1927, in Boone County, Iowa the son of August and Clara (Gore) Bass. He grew up in Boone, Iowa where he graduated from Boone High School.
Ray enlisted in the United States Army in 1943, where he became a medic at the Halloran General Hospital in New York. Following his discharge in 1946, Ray was united in marriage to Audrey J. Kelly on February 23, 1947, in Boone, Iowa. They made their home in Des Moines, Iowa for thirteen years before moving to Blooming Prairie, Minnesota in 1957.
While living in Blooming Prairie, Ray farmed and was the superintendent of the wastewater treatment plant for twenty-six years. He was a member of the Blooming Prairie United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee. He was also a member of the American Legion, Winona Consistory, Masonic Lodge in Blooming Prairie and Austin, the Osman Temple Shrine, Blooming Prairie Shrine Club, an active member of the Osman Temple Oriental Band and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Blooming Prairie. He was also Present Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Blooming Prairie. He enjoyed in his spare time, watching his grandchildren in their sporting events, especially Friday night football.
Survivors include, his wife, Audrey Bass of Blooming Prairie; one son Tim (Sandy) Bass of Blooming Prairie; four grandchildren, Heidi (Brett) Zimmerman of Dodge Center, Heather (Anthony) Schiller of Owatonna, Nicholas Bass and Tyler Bass both of Blooming Prairie; one great grandchild, Jeffrey Zimmerman of Dodge Center; one niece, Joan Fried of Des Moines, Iowa and one nephew Gary Bass of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; many cousins in Iowa and other relatives and friends. His parents, four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, February 27, 2006, at the United Methodist Church of Blooming Prairie with Rev. Debbie King-Quale officiating. Interment will follow the service at Blooming Prairie City Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 52. Visitation will be held at the Worlein ' Blooming Prairie Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 26th and for hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. A Masonic service will be held at 6 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
