Lydia S. Henry
Lydia S. Henry, 99, of Newman Grove, NE, formerly of Greeley, NE died on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove, NE.
A private family graveside service will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Greeley, NE.
Levander Funeral Home of Spalding, NE is in charge of arrangements.
Lydia "Lily" Stewart Henry, daughter of Levin and Juanita (Martinez) Stewart was born on December 28, 1923, at Duluth, MN. She attended high school in San Antonio, TX and graduated in 1941.
In 1940 Lily married Bobby Slayden in San Antonio, TX. To this union one child was born. The two lived in San Antonio until moving to Gridley, CA.
In 1950 Lily married William Clarence Bassett in Reno, NV. From this union Lily was blessed with two children. The couple made their home in Reno, NV and then Sacramento, CA. There she was a laundress and caregiver. William passed away in 1968.
In 1974 Lily was united in marriage to James Henry at Lake Tahoe. From this union Lily gained three stepchildren. The pair made their home in Sacramento, CA. After James passed away Lily moved to Greeley, NE to be closer to family. She took care of her family for much of her life. She loved to watch tv, go to garage sales, eat Mexican food, collect shoes, and tend to her wardrobe.
Lily is survived by her children: Claude (Leslie) Bassett of Elgin, TX; Cindy (Joel Glaser) Bassett of Greeley, NE; stepson: Patric (Renee) Henry of California; stepdaughters: Mary Betreis of California; stepdaughter-in-law: Sharron Henry of California; 18 grandchildren; more than 30 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son: Raven Slayden in 1944; husbands: William Bassett and James Henry; stepson: Michael Henry; daughter-in-law: Bonnie Henry.
