      Ex-Exchange President Julian H.P. Bass Dies

      Julian Hameric Peter Bass of James Island, a terminal train master for Seaboard Coast Line Railroad, an organist and choir director and a former Exchange Club president, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
      The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Roman Catholic Church of the Nativity. Burial, directed by McAlister?s Downtown Chapel, will be Holy Cross Cemetery.
      Mr. Bass was born May 20, 1916, in Columbia. He was a graduate of University of South Carolina and was a member of Church of the Nativity. He was an organist and choir director for more than 40 years in many local churches. He was a former member of Florence Choral Society and Civic Orchestra, and while in Florence, he was a former commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars, an organizer of Big Brothers Association and president of the Exchange Club.
      Surviving are a son, J. Michael Bass of Charleston; and two sisters, Edith Seawell and Evelyn Brazzle, both of Columbia.
