Gordon A. Bass Sr.
Mr. Gordon A. Bass, Sr., 76, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 8, 2007. Mr. Bass was a native of Jacksonville and retired in 1993 with 34 years service from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Mr. Bass began his career as a Deputy with the Duval County Road Patrol and later under consolidation, became part of the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office and retired as a Detective. He served in many capacities with the Sheriffs Office as a Homicide and Burglary Detective, Court Bailiff and an Investigator with the Duval County Medical Examiner's Office. Mr. Bass was a member of the F.O.P. Lodge # 5-30, Riverview Masonic Lodge # 306, F.& A.M. and was a Veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps. He was a member of North Jacksonville Baptist Church, 8531 N. Main Street, where a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 12, 2007 with Dr. Herb Reavis, Jr., officiating. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Mrs. Aleta Bass; 5 children: Gordon A. (Terry) Bass, Jr., Rick (Debbie) Bass, Kim (Sam) Church, Bobby (Carolyn) Bass and Kevin (Dawnelle) Bass; 1 brother: Paul P. (Juanita) Bass, Jr.; 11 grandchildren: Gordon Bass, III, Tricia (Scott) Swanstrom, Patrick Bass, Shawn (Liz) Bass, Brian Bass, Shane Shepperd, Melissa (Christopher) Hagan, Jonathan (Marie) Shepperd, Chad Bass, Adam Bass and Olivia Bass; 4 great grandchildren: Brynn, Tyler, Parker and Hailey and a host of friends. His family will receive friends from 3 PM to 5 PM on Sunday ( TODAY ) at the North Jacksonville Chapel of PEEPLES FAMILY FUNERAL HOMES, 2220 Soutel Drive near Lem Turner Road.
