Nadean Elizabeth Bass (1932 ? 2019)
Nadean was born in Leavenworth, Kansas. She pursued her interest to become an educator at Pittsburg State Teachers College where she received her B.S. Ed. While in college, she met the love of her life - Robert A. Bass, Sr. and they were married in 1953. Most of their professional lives were spent in Seattle, with their three children; Mary Elizabeth, Robert Jr. (Bobby), and David Wayne. Nadean taught elementary physical education in the Seattle Schools for over twenty years. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Nadean and Robert's youngest child, David, has a developmental disability. They kept David at home and raised him and met with a small group of other parents who also had children with developmental disabilities. From this group came mothers who co-authored legislation that was the forerunner to the national law that protected educational rights for people with disabilities. Today David is an engaging, loving, spirited young man full of life. Another outcome of Nadean's activism, was Northwest Center, where in the early years, Nadean was active in fundraising and volunteering. Today, Northwest Center for People of All Abilities is a premier organization and on-going concern. Nadean's life exemplified the fruit of perseverance, patience, faithfulness, and love.
Nadean was preceded in death by her husband Robert and her son Robert Jr. (Bobby). She leaves to cherish her memories and spirit: her daughter, Mary and son, David; and many, devoted relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Saturday, January 19th at 11am.
