The Widow?s Mite
Mrs. John Bass {relict of the late
John Bass, of Giles County, who was a soldier under Gen. Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans} yesterday called on Maj. John L. Brown, superintendent of State Capitol, and tendered to him five dollars as her subscription to the Jackson Statue fund. It was a part of her pension of her late husband. Maj. Brown justly regards this beautiful tribute to the memory of Old Hickory. It was the patriotic widow's mite. Mrs. Bass at present resides in Marshall County.
