Peggy Strickland Marries Mr. Bass
Rocky Mount, October 2 - The marriage of Miss Peggy Elizabeth Strickland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B.M. Strickland of Rocky Mount, to Hillman Dempsey Bass, son of Mrs. L.D. Bass and the late Mr. Bass of Rocky Mount, took place in a formal ceremony which was solemnized Sunday afternoon, September 2, in the Thorpe Memorial Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church. The officiating minister was Reverend Norman Johnson, and music was presented by Mrs. Lyman Jones, organist, and Miss Hilda Winstead of Raleigh, soloist.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of ivory satin and carried a bouquet centered with a purple-throated orchid.
Maid of honor was Miss Effie Louise Vines of Washington, who wore a gown of yellow taffeta. The bridegroom’s sisters, Mrs. James Hart of Morganton, wearing orchid taffeta, was matron of honor. The bridesmaid was Miss Lois James of Washington and Rocky Mount, who wore lime taffeta. Miss Julie Anne Strickland and Miss Ann Stone of Charlotte, also gowned in lime taffeta, were junior bridesmaids.
Honorary bridesmaids were Miss Grace Duke, Miss Betty Anne Cross, Miss Christine Duke and Miss Audrey Griffin. Best man was Joseph B. Bass of Greenville, a brother of the bridegroom.
After the ceremony, the parents of the bride entertained at a reception at the home of Mrs. Harold Browder. Later the couple left for a wedding trip, and the bride wore a pink suit with brown accessories.
