He was a native of Nashville, N.C., and an elder of Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Broadmore. He was a retired self-employed building contractor. Survivors include his wife, Hazel Moore Bass; a daughter. Valery Lynn Simmons of Chesapeake; three sons, Kenneth M. Bass and David L. Bass, both of Chesapeake, and Daniel W. Bass of Suffolk; a sister, Beatrice Cottle of Hampton; and 11 grandchildren., A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Broadmore by the Rev. Henry W. Stevens. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, with Sturtevant Funeral Home in charge.
