      October 31, 1919 ? July 5, 2024

Naomi Bassett, at the age of 104, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Lamar Avenue Church of Christ in Paris. Dr. John Cannon will officiate. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Paris.

Naomi was born on October 31, 1919, in Cooper, Texas, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Maynard and the third of eight children. She married L. W. (?Dub?) Bassett on August 7, 1938, and they shared a beautiful life together until his death on February 22, 2005.

Naomi was an incredible woman. She was the epitome of the Christian woman in Proverbs and much more.

Naomi and Dub were extraordinary individuals who blessed a family and a community with love, wisdom, and vision. Together they defined marriage, commitment, selflessness, and happiness. They parented exceptional children who adored and modeled them in many ways.

Naomi?s positive attitude was legendary. As those who knew her well recognized, she possessed a silent strength and resolve which produced that positivity. She accepted every challenging life-event with grace and without complaint or self-pity. She devoted her life to her family and church. After losing her husband and best friend of almost 70 years, she was able to live peacefully and happily even without him.

Naomi enjoyed telling ?her story?. With a grin she would say that she was born on Halloween and that she was left-handed. She cherished pictures and the photo albums and scrapbooks in which she documented the travels, accomplishments, and special events of family and friends. She journaled and read and was witty, gracious, and beautiful.

Naomi was mentor and inspiration to countless people. She guided and counseled without judgment. She comforted and consoled with gentleness. She led by example. To the end of her life, she would ask: ?Are you happy? Is your family well? What can I do for you??

Naomi is survived by three children, Gary Bassett of Highland Park, Texas, Linda Henny of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Johnny Bassett of Paris, Texas. She is survived by three grandchildren, Michael Bassett of Highland Park, Texas, Erin Turner of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Dana Queen of Ann Arbor Michigan, and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving nephews and nieces. A special note of appreciation to a loving family friend, Jackie Shelton.

Naomi will always be remembered as one of the sweetest, kindest, and most giving souls to have walked the face of the earth. God bless her.
