Cato Bass Jr.

Nashville - Cato Anderson Bass, Jr. passed away on June 26, 2018 at the age of 97. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Cox Bass; parents, Cato Anderson Bass and Lilla Hunter Bass and sister and brothers, Creath Hughes, Don Bass and Paul Bass. Cato was a World War II US Army Air Corp veteran and attended Michigan Tech. He owned Mid-State Tractor & Equipment Company. A member of the Sertoma Club of Nashville for over 40 years, he served on many committees and as President and trustee. He was also a Life Patron of Sertoma International. Cato was involved in many civic organizations and served on boards for Goodwill Industries and the League for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Cato is survived by his children, Barbara Bass McRee (Charlie), William "Bill" Bass (Sara), and Cato "Buddy" Bass, III; grandchildren, Katheryn Yonce (Les), Meg Allison (Shoff), Chris Bass, Charlie Bass (Kate), Kim Wires (Brad) and great-grandchildren, Wells and Land Allison, Lilla and Charles Yonce and Asher Wires. He loved reading, golf, and traveling with friends and family. He often retold the story of Daniel in the Lion's Den to his grandson, Chris. Cato was something of a singer in family circles, interpreting romantic ballads of Hank Williams for his late wife and entertaining his children with the folk music of Ireland. He enjoyed winters in Stewart, Florida and summer trips to Fall Creek Falls with all of his family. Cato passed away while spending a month in Maine traveling with Buddy. When he was recently asked how he felt, he said, "I feel great. I couldn't be better." He always had a positive outlook. It was a life well-lived. The family will receive friends at Judson Baptist Church beginning at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 7 followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
