June Brunson Clemons Bassett (1936-2016)
June Brunson Clemons Bassett of Perry, FL died on March 4, 2016 in Birmingham, Alabama after a brief illness. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Clemons (Mark) English, her husband of sixteen years, James C. (Jake) Bassett, and her sister, Ruth Fanette Chesser.
She was predeceased by her husband of 29 years, Archie Leroy Clemons; her parents, Robert Fallen Brunson and Fannie Mae Swicord Brunson; her brother-in-law, William Joseph Chesser; and her son, Archie Leroy Clemons, Jr.
June was born in Quincy, Florida on May 17, 1936 and moved to Perry, Florida in 1938. She graduated from Taylor County High School in 1954 and Florida State University in 1958. June taught in the Taylor County School system, retiring after teaching thirty years. She was active in the community and her church. June was a very talented musician, teaching piano lessons and serving as organist at First Baptist Church and St. James Episcopal Church in Perry.
She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Perry, but more recently attended First Presbyterian Church with her husband, Jake.
Other survivors include daughter-in-law, Dana Clemons, four grandchildren, Lindsey English (Blake) Kersey, Anna English (Tyler) Schnell, Emily Clemons and Scott Clemons, and two great-grandchildren, Noah Blake Kersey and Anna Reese Kersey.
She is also survived by four step-children, Jim (Suzanne) Bassett, Joe (Dawn) Bassett, Anne Marie Bassett (Mark) Fraser and Sue Ellen Bassett (David) Sullivan and their families as well as nephews Jay (Mandi) Chesser, Rob (Tammi) Chesser, and niece Beth Chesser (Jim) Cleveland and their families.
Visitation will be held at First Presbyterian Church in the Fellowship Hall on Tuesday evening, March 8, 6-8 pm. A graveside service will be held at Pineview Memorial Gardens on Wednesday morning, March 9 at 10:00. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church on Wednesday morning, March 9 at 11:00. All arrangements are under the care of Beggs Funeral Home Perry Chapel.
