Melvyne Coe Bassett
Ocala - Melvyne Coe Bassett, 81, who retired as a branch manager for a bank, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at Munroe Regional Medical Center. Services will be Monday at Hiers Funeral Home in Ocala, 910 S.E. Silver Springs Blvd. (352-629-7171). Born in Tallahassee, she moved to Ocala in 1989 and was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Ocala. Survivors include three sons, Curry J. Bassett of Ocala, William C. Bassett of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and Edward Scott Bassett of Fort Pierce; a daughter, Ruby B. Schmidt of Ocala; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Hill of Ogden, Utah, and Billie C. Young of Treasure Island; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Curry J. Bassett
Mr. Curry Bassett, Jr., 71, of Ocala, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014, at his residence. Raised in Monticello and Tallahassee, he was a long time resident of Ocala. Curry earned his Bachelor's Degree from Florida State University, and was well known as an avid FSU Seminole fan. GO NOLES! After moving to Ocala, he worked for many years with Dollar Tree Industries, retiring as a regional manager. His family said he will always be remembered for his generosity and sense of humor.
Survivors include his son Tyler and his wife Kari, his sisters Ruby McCowan and Tammy Leopard, his brothers Bill, Scott, and Steve Bassett, grandsons Russell and Griffin Bassett, and his friend and former wife Justine Peck.
Funeral services for Mr. Bassett will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
