OBIT - GEORGETOWN ? Ralph V. "Pete" Dowers, 87, of Georgetown, passed away Sunday morning (Dec. 14, 2003) at the VA Illiana HCS, Danville.
"Pete" was born Oct. 6, 1916, in Georgetown, the son of the late James and Liddie A. Dowers. "Pete" married Wilma Carrington on April 8, 1916, in Danville and he survives of Georgetown.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Linda (Bob) Potter of Georgetown; two brothers, John Dowers of Covington, Ind., and half brother, Jim Dowers of Eugene, Ind.; two grandchildren, Benjamin Potter of Springfield and Senior Airman James Potter of the Fairchild Air Force Base. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Clarence, and four sisters, Elsie, Myrtle, Bess, and Sadie.
"Pete" worked as a farmer in the Georgetown area for most of his life. After serving his country proudly in WW II as a Tech Sgt. and was a member of the American Legion Post #203. "Pete" returned home to work as mechanic in Chrisman and was well known for fixing lots of buddies Tractors. "Pete" enjoyed coon hunting and being outdoors. "Pete" always had livestock.
A celebration of "Pete's" life will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in Georgetown; Officiating: Pastors Ernest and Jean Rumple; Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the funeral home; Burial: Pleasant Mound Cemetery with full military rites to be conducted by the American Legion Post 203.
