Susan Caroline "Sue" Bassett
Sue Bassett passed away on Saturday, January 9, at the Jasper General Hospital after a brief illness resulting from a stroke. She was a precious mother, a loving grandmother, a loyal friend, and a beautiful representative of her Savior. She was grateful for each day of her 97 years and lived life to the fullest attending church, visiting friends, and supervising her flower garden. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tarrell Bassett, in 1985 and a baby daughter, Dixie Caroline. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Lee Smith and Victoria Shoemaker Smith; brothers, Clinton, Forest, Frazier, Hector and Willie; and sisters, Edna Brady, Nettie Green, Carrie Lee Knotts, Lois Phillips, and Zettie Phillips. Survivors are two daughters: Lona Bassett and Morrett (Danny) Ellzey. She leaves two grandsons: Randy (Vette) Ellzey and Rod Ellzey and three great-grandaughters, Johna, Lori, and Rachel Ellzey. She is also survived by two sisters: Marvis Read and Myrtis Read. Serving as pallbearers are Tommy Bishop, Randy Ellzey, Rod Ellzey, Windsel Phillips, Eddie Stevens, James Stevens, and Mark Stringer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gideons. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 Sunday evening, January 10, at Colonial Chapel in Bay Springs, which is in charge of arrangements.
