Nettie Dunn Bass Meusel
Nettie Dunn Bass Meusel, 91, of Burnet, died July 6, 2004. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Edgar Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. James Hoover officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery under the direction of Edgar Funeral Home of Burnet. Born in Bishop, Texas, she was born April 15, 1913, the daughter of George W. and Rebecca Jane Griffin Dunn. During WW II, she served her country by becoming one the famous ``Rosie the Riveters'. After the war, she and her husband, Roy Bass owned and operated the Highway Grill from 1947 until 1955. She then became a beautician and did that until 1962, in Austin, TX. She owned and operated her own beauty shop in Houston until 1975. She also was proud of her membership with the Eastern Star. She was the past Worthy Matron in Port Lavaca, TX, in Lodge # 373 & Lodge # 602, in Sea Drift, TX. She and her husband retired to Pt. O'Connor in 1975, residing at the corner of Tyler and Washington St. until 1999 when they returned to Burnet. She was baptized and a member of the Baptist faith, and worshipped at the Skyline Baptist Church in Burnet, and was a graduate of Liberty Hill High School in 1933. Survivors include spouse, Mr. Paul B. Meusel, of Burnet, 42 years; sons, Kenneth R. Bass and his wife, Lucille of San Diego Ca., Terry H. Bass and wife, Martha, of Albuquerque, New Mex.; six grandchildren, Annette Dahn, Michael Bass, Thomas Bass, Christina Bass, Katie Bass and David Bass; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, Elaine Holbrook and her husband, James, Gerri Hoover and her husband, James Hoover, all of Burnet; brother, Ernest Dunn and wife, Lilly of Council Creek, Burnet, TX. Preceded in death by her son, Doyle Bass; and her brothers, Charlie, Johnny, Robert, Edgar Dunn; and her sisters, Lilly Dunn, Rhoda Bird, and Nina Willis. A special thanks goes out to Dr. David Pohl and Dr. Brian Kingston and the staff at both Seton Hospitals in Burnet and Austin for their special medical care over these past five years.
