      Steven Lee Bray

      CENTRAL CITY - Steven Lee Bray, 89, of Central City died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at United Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Doug McHargue officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Leigh Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. Mr. Bray was born on Jan. 1, 1921, in Bancroft to Ernest F. and Etta (Bassett) Bray. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence, and second wife, Mona. Survivors of the immediate family include his children, John and Mary Hall of Genoa, Peggy Fishler Dey and Bill McNish of Baldwin City, Kan., Chris and Carole Bray of Des Moines, Wash., Pam and Lanny Phillips of Kempner, Texas, Florence and Ernie Morgan of Central City and Ronald "Jack" and Gertrude Bray of Holy Lake Ranch, Texas; 18 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Vernon Bray of Denver, Colo., and Elton Bray of Bancroft; and two sisters, Judy Langfield of Lakewood, Colo., and Anita Freel. He grew up in the Bancroft area and graduated from high school from an area high school. After high school, Steve entered the U.S. Marine Corp and served from March 1941 to May of 1945. He was injured in Okanawa, receiving the purple heart and the Presidential Unit Citation for his service. After being honorably discharged from the military, Steve received his training as a machinist and worked in Milford as a machinist. On Jan. 6, 1947, Steven Bray and Florence Corriea were united in marriage. They made their home in Central City. Steve was a salesman for Watkins, Amway and ConAgra. Florence died on April 28, 1965. Steve and his family continued to live in Central City. On June 7, 1966, he was united in marriage to Mona J. (Decker-Fishler) Bray. In the late 1960's, Steve began his work as a federal meat inspector, retiring on Feb. 2, 1985. After his retirement, he and Mona continued to live in Central City. Mona died on Sept. 17, 2008. Steve was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, the VFW, and the Fraternal Order of Eagle's. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles, he was a coin collector, and avid pool and card player. He loved to dance. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Justyne Elliott and Myrna Marr, and a granddaughter, Tonya. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.soltfh.com.
