Mary Ellen Jane Paxton-Bassett
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Ellen Jane Paxton-Bassett, known to all as Jane, who peacefully passed away on April 30, 2025, at McNally House Hospice, surrounded by the love of her family. Jane was the loving wife of the late David Bassett, cherished mother to Lyndall (Charles Cohen) and Thaddeus (Brittany). She is a devoted sister to James (Irene) Paxton and Jonathon (Susan) Paxton. She was a caring sister-in-law to Catherine (Ian) Steer, Mary Lou (the late Rodney) Hall, Dorothea (Craig) MacLaughlan, and the late Elizabeth (the late Pat) Dempsey. Jane is predeceased by her parents Janet and William Paxton and in-laws Claudine and James Bassett. Amazing Aunt to Amelia Paxton, Dennis (Cindy) Breen, Claudine (Paul) Hennessey, Glenda (Carl Pretty) Hall, Montgomery Hall, Patrick (Jenny) Dempsey, and the late David Dempsey. Additionally, Jane?s extended family, friends, and the many others who called her "Mom," "Ma," or "Mother" will carry her memory in their hearts. Jane had a deep love for the unusual tea, educating others, and engaging in thoughtful political discourse. She was known for her unwavering support of the underdog. In keeping with Jane?s wishes, cremation has taken place and a drop in Celebration of Life will be held at 42 Lakeview Dr., Grimsby on Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 12-4p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to McNally House Hospice in Jane's name. Donations can be made at the Celebration of Life.
