James E. Bassett Dies In Automobile Mishap
James Edward Bassett, 34 years old, was killed instantly, Wednesday afternoon, April 8th about 6 o?clock when his car left the road and overturned on the curve west of Brandenburg near the Knights of Columbus Hall. He was taking his brother, Clayton Bassett Jr. to his home at Sirocco, who died not suffer serious injuries in the wreck.
The two brothers had been to Fort Know James Edward for a routine medical checkup, as he worked there, and Clayton, Jr. to see about getting work.
Mr. Bassett served in the Mary in the Pacific from April 1943 until January 1946. After his discharge he returned to his employment at Fort Knox in heating operations, and at the time of his death had worked there for 17 years.
He was married to Miss Marjorie Wallen of Keota, Oklahoma march 1, 1946.
He was immediate post commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6543, a member of American Legion and Amvets.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marjorie Wallen Bassett, three small children, Janelle, Donald and Jolene, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Bassett, Sr., one sister Mrs. Bernie Fouchee of Pleasure Ridge Park and one brother, Clayton Bassett, Jr., Sirocco, one sister preceded him in death.
