Raymond Wilson Bass
Raymond Wilson Bass passed from this life on August 29, 2008, in Richmond. He was born June 9, 1919, in Bogalusa, Louisiana, to Hosea and Lela Bass.
Raymond loved to fish and hunt and family get-togethers. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Old Ocean, VFW, Masonic Lodge and Disabled American Veterans. Raymond proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the North African campaign. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors left to cherish his memory are his children, Mickey Bass and Julie Ryan of Sweeny, Melinda Noonan and husband, Joe, of Austin, and Karen Kulcak and husband, C.J., of Richmond; sisters, Lela C. Smith of Sweeny and Zula G. LeBlanc of Austin; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one niece and six nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Velta Lucille Bass; a brother, Hosea Daniel Bass; and a nephew, Terry Bass.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia at 10:00 am. with the Rev. Joe Constantine officiating. Burial will follow at Sweeny Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia.
Serving as pallbearers will be Paul and C.J. Kulcak, Darrell and Dickie Smith, Joe Noonan and Troy Bass.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Raymond's name to First Baptist Church-Old Ocean, VFW Post 8551 in Old Ocean or the Masonic Lodge in Sweeny.
